Several competing platforms started life as Windows desktop applications. Over time, as customers demanded web access, those vendors built browser-based versions alongside their existing desktop tools. The result was two parallel products with different feature sets, different interfaces, and different levels of support.
The consequence for customers is a difficult choice. The desktop version typically has more functionality. The web-based version is more accessible, but it lags behind.
